The Vol are first encountered on The Ring of Vol. Though the superstructure's moniker suggests their ownership of it, it seems unlikely. Their technology and the technology of the Ring are different. Perhaps the Vol were the first group to reinhabit it and make use of it. And by their behavior, the Vol seem to be scavengers, salvagers, and traders. The Vol seem to be a curious, gregarious species but their focus is largely one of trade, profit-making, and resource acquisition. They display a strong hoarding tendency, as their resource acquisition far outreaches their need.
