At a Glance
Catullans blend contradictions into societal soup: they are a competitive, highly individualistic species with a guild-based, collectivist culture. Their world is one of extreme technological ubiquity insomuch as most Catullans possess cybernetic enhancements. Yet many keep small green spaces within their homes and some- the Edenist and Primitivists- reject it all. Catulla was ruled by machines for several centuries: now, Catullans prefer to integrate with their machinery. With compartmentalized notions of privacy, Catullan lives are played out as theatre in a great panopticon, indulging the exhibitionist and voyeur in every one of them. Yet when their privacy is breached, it is one of the worst offenses imaginable. Theirs is a culture with a "street name" for public interaction and a private name for those welcome in the intimate spheres of family and lovers. Their currency and social lubrication is a notion of Reputation, a complex code that determines how far you will get in their ultra-competitive and yet collectivist society.
Anatomy & Physiology
Catullans are on average a few centimeters taller than but more slender than Humans. They are otherwise very similar to Humans in appearance, with some notable differences in brain structure and internal organ placement. They have ethnicities that have superficial likenesses to Earther ethnicities. The Bai'cen are the dominant ethnicity and native to the Ba'cenot continent. Bai'cen have strong tendencies toward Asiatic and Indian subcontinent Terrans.
Dietary Requirements
Catullans have similar dietary requirements to Humans. They require about 15% more calories than their Human counterparts due to their higher metabolisms. Catullans have aversions to (but an ability to acquire tastes for) spicy, sweet and bitter flavors. Most Catullan food is based on salty, savory, flowery, earthy, and sour palettes. Catullans have a high percentage of food allergies and are notoriously reticent to try new foods. Catullan cuisine can be artistic and beautiful similar to deconstructed foods or sushi, but workday meals are often a paste, a yogurt-like suspension, smoothies, or similar to a soup.
Sleep Requirements
Catullans similarly need to sleep around a third of their rotation. That equates to between 12-16 hours per 42-hour rotation. Most Catullan cultures split sleep into increments of four local hours. spaced between the day and night.
