Ancestries of the Northwestern Woods
Eyr's Haunted Woodlands
The northwestern coast of Eyr beyond the lakes region is a massive, nearly contiguous forest. Sometimes called the Six Rivers Woodlands, this region has proven recalcitrant to the whims and will of Humans. The region is extremely rural and wild, with hidden pockets within the forest from which cling small, isolated hamlets and perhaps a manor or monastery. There are only three large cities in the entire region. And in all honesty they only control the confines of their walls.
In the city-states of Presht, Brudja and Rukh, life is urbane in an incomplete mimicry of the stylish courts of the Basker and Seorna. With a venality and treachery all their own they plot, though lack the decadence of the lakes. These city-dwellers look down on the rustic woodland folk outside their city walls, and yet the forest has confounded their arrogance, technology and patience at every turn.
The Woods outside the cities are mostly flat though steadily rise toward the south, east and north into rugged hills and low-slung mountains. The coastline is rugged, with some precious protected inlets and river deltas to allow inland trade. But compared to the south, the land's cultivation for trade and farming are rudimentary. The woods hold rich resources for timber as well as hunting and wild gathering.
Humans of the Woods
