Ancestries of the Maritime Kingdoms

maritime-ancestries.png

The Maritime Kingdoms, found between the Lok d'Eor Kingdoms and the Imperial Remnant, are an aggressive and ambitious, entrepreneurial group.  They are behind the most successful and lucrative thrust toward colonizing the Merchant's Labyrinth and opening trade to the Motauk interior.

Many of these Kingdoms were partitioned between the Xinj Empire, and an arcane uprising that saw influence from the Spirals Below in the area for a century.  Arcanists in the area feared control by the Xinj, which at the time was unusually militaristic, and a resurgence in extreme faith orthodoxy.

Humans of the Maritimes

seorna.pngSeorna

The Seorna are as hawkish as they are passionate, conservative in public but uninhibited in private.  They are a faith-based and warlike people who represent the limits of Human tolerance for the arcane.  The Seorna have been under threat by monstrous hordes and arcane-wielding diabolists for centuries.

They

a scant century ago.  Now they root out arcane heretics who dabble with Spiral-Down and otherworldly forces.  Their culture evangelizes their Gods, promotes their innate physical beauty, and lauds the individual who seeks their own fortunes and the betterment of a greater Seorna.

Where Seorna was conquered by arcane evil, the Pomjeriard paid tribute to them as a satrapy until they too could overthrow their unsavory neighbors.  The Pomjeriard are pragmatic capitalists, merchants and sea traders with more of a lip service approach to the Gods.  They too are leery of the arcane, but the Pomjeriard remember the Ancient Alliance between their people and the druids of the sea.  A sea witch is a welcome ally on any Pomjeriard ship.

Today the Pomjeriard and Seorna are bitter rivals and some feel war is inevitable between the powers.  Like Seorna, the rugged individuals who boldly seek their fortune but stay loyal to Pomjeriard are their greatest heroes- though they are less boastful than the Seorna.

vidycusa.pngVidycusae

Once their own Empire and now Satraps of the Xinj, today the Vidycusae trade and revel.  Their “Donja” are still independent lords in theory, but it is the guilds and merchants that are the lifeblood here.  The Vidycusae are a decadent people with wily minds turned toward the Xinj brand of mercantilism.

The Vidycusae are like the Haeilae- the have reformed their fallen state in to competing city-states rather than a new nation.  The Vidycusae identify themselves by their city-state, and their city district.  The fact that they are somewhat attached to the Xinj Imperial Remnant is of little consequence to them in the day to day.  It brings them wealth and trade to their ports.  And today, that is what the Vidycusae live for.
