At a Glance
Proxima II- sometimes referred to as Proxima-B or Bon Proxima by the natives- is the second planet in the Proxima Centauri star system. It was the second interstellar planet for Earth's governments to charter and colonize. It is also within the closest star system to the Sol System. It is often nicknamed the "Jade Jewel" by natives, noting its color from orbit. Proxima is a beautiful world though it has an eerieness to its landscape. With its wet, cool climate and low light levels, its deep forests and marshy moors feel primordial. Many who come to the Jade Jewel recognize in it the Pacific Temperate Rain Forest stretching from Oregon to Alaska. The early Proximans, who were mainly French, Moroccan, and Quebecois called the land Bon Proxima or "Good Proxima."
Indigenous Life Forms
Proxima II harbors advanced multicellular life forms of flora, fauna, and fungi. Proxima's geological epochs do not coincide with an Earth equivalent but evolution seems to be at a similar level of diversity and abundance found during the early Permian period on Earth. However, there are notable exceptions and absences, making the Proximan ecosystem unique. Life on Proxima is diverse but more homogeneous than Earth. This appears to be because of a recent Icehouse period and a likely extinction event within the last 2-4 million years.
